| Frequently Asked Questions |
Can I combine all PDF pages into a single HTML page? The option to combine multiple PDF pages into a single HTML page is available in Magellan versions 4.2 and later. However, combining pages in HTML4 can cause the output to load slowly in a browser, and if too many pages are combined IE may not display the output correctly. The HTML3 output option from Magellan will always create a single HTML page.I have an older version of the Magellan Plug-in. What new features are available? BCL Magellan 6.5 runs as a standalone converter; it no longer requires a copy of Adobe Acrobat. Version 6.5 also allows you to print other formats (such as MS Word DOC files) to HTML.
What is the difference between the “HTML4” and “HTML3” output from Magellan? The HTML4 output from Magellan uses Cascading
Style sheets or Netscape Layers to position the text and images from your PDF so that the HTML display closely matches the original. This type of output may be too complex for some browsers and HTML editors. The HTML3 output from Magellan complies with the HTML 3.2 standard. The page layout of your PDF will not be preserved as accurately as in the HTML4 output. Instead, Magellan will reflow the contents of your file in a format that is compatible with most HTML browsers and editors, as well as other applications (for example, Word and Excel). Will Magellan preserve hyperlinks to other PDF files? Magellan will preserve a PDF's internal hyperlinks and links to web pages. However, it will not preserve links to other PDF files.
Can Magellan convert to HTML tables? The HTML4 output from Magellan will not contain HTML tables. Use the HTML3 output option for HTML tables. Why doesn't Magellan's HTML output use the same font as my PDF? Magellan uses a standard set of HTML-compatible fonts in its output by default. If you use a custom font, or any font that is not included in this set of fonts, the text in your PDF will be mapped to the closest available font in HTML. You can turn off the "Adjust Font Names" option to use the original font names in the HTML; however, if anyone viewing the document does not have those fonts installed, they will be substituted with standard HTML fonts.
Why does the text from my PDF convert to strange characters in the HTML output? Sometimes when fonts are embedded or subset within a PDF, the original font information is lost and the text is corrupted. Although the PDF will still display correctly, the correct text information is not available. If you simply copy the text from the PDF and paste it into another application, you can see that the text is incorrect. When this happens, our software cannot recover the correct text from your file.Does Magellan extract form fields from PDF? No, Magellan does not currently extract PDF forms. If you need this functionality, please contact us for a custom solution.
Why is the Magellan plug-in grayed out when I open a PDF I want to convert? The PDF is protected by Acrobat security settings that prevent the selecting of text and graphics. |
